In a talk show with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Varun Dhawan revealed that he had met Natasha for the first time when they were in the sixth standard. Varun then cleared that they have not been dating since then, they were close friends till the eleventh or twelfth grade. Reminiscing about the time when he had realised he had fallen for Natasha, Varun said that she was in the yellow house and he was in the red house, and it was on the basketball court. In the lunch break, he saw her walking, and it was that moment for him that he realised he was in love with her. Varun then revealed that Natasha had rejected his proposal multiple times, but he did not give up on her.
Kareena Kapoor Khan then confirmed the couple's engagement by referring to Natasha as Varun's fiancee. Talking about getting married to Natasha, Varun said, “See, marriage, coming into this time period when you have been with someone for so long... I felt like getting married after I saw my brother and my bhabhi. When I saw my niece Niara, I was like, ‘This is good.’” Varun also talked about how the couple would have opted for a live-in relationship, but the Badlapur actor's parents want them to get married. He said, "Natasha and her parents have been pretty chill in that sense but I think after a certain period, you decide that you want to live with each other. She and I wouldn’t have minded a live-in relationship but my parents wanted us... Because I have my own place now."
Talking about Varun Dhawan and Natasha Dalal's marriage, the couple had not officially announced plans about the same, but the reports were rife that they were set to tie the knot this year and had finalised Thailand as their wedding destination. Earlier, in an interview with the Filmfare magazine, Varun had talked about Natasha's influence in his life and had revealed, "Actually, I decided to do a film like Badlapur or October because of her. It's because of her and some of our friends that I do slightly different films. They like such kind of cinema. What's special about our relationship is that I have someone, who isn't with me just because I'm an actor. It's amazing to have someone like that in your life. We bond over each other and that's the main thing. We've known each other for too long, so the connection is deep. It's like a family. It's always been so."
In an unseen Koffee With Karan confession episode, Varun had spoken about how Natasha has always supported his dreams. Talking about the same, he had said, "As far as me and Natasha are concerned, eventually after we get married and we are together and all that stuff… she has her own individuality and that is why I am with her. She has her own voice, which is super strong with things she wants to do and achieve in life and as her partner, that is something I want to support. She has been very supportive of my career since day one. I have known her since school. We were friends then. Since day one she has been supportive of my dreams. It has to be the same. From my side, I have to be supportive of her dreams. Eventually, as a couple, you want to evolve together."
