Vidya Balan is undoubtedly one of the prominent faces in the Hindi film industry. The actress, who is known for her power-packed and versatile performances, was recently seen in the romcom, Do Aur Do Pyaar. Apart from her acting stints, Vidya is also popular for her sartorial picks, which range from easy-breezy ethnic wear and Indo-Western outfits to gorgeous sarees.
Recently, Vidya appeared on the YouTube talk show, Unfiltered by Samdish, and shared unheard anecdotes pertaining to her professional as well as personal life. During the conversation, when the host asked the actress about her father’s favourite shirt, Vidya said that her father looked great in everything. However, his ‘safed dhoti-kurta’ has been Vidya’s favourite, and whenever her father wears it, she feels like snuggling up to him.

Moreover, Samdish asked the actress to reveal a habit of her father that she does not like. To this, Vidya said that she is just like her father and revealed that she likes everything very organised. She continued by saying that she would get thrown off if things were not arranged according to her. After this, the host questioned about the size of her wardrobe, and Vidya replied:
“It’s not very huge, not at all huge compared to most other women and definitely other actors but I am a minimalist, I have to say that. I don’t possess too many things.”

After giving an estimated size of the wardrobe to Samdish, Vidya added that it is not filled with stuff. She also shared that people keep asking her about the number of sarees she owns as she mostly prefers wearing them. Vidya revealed that she owns just 25 sarees and keeps giving them away as she generally never repeats her sarees. In her words:

“Mujhse sab poochte rehte hai ki aapke paas saariyan kitni hai because main saree bohot pehenti hun. I have 25 sarees. I keep giving away sarees because main rakh ke kya karungi, I don’t get a chance to repeat my sarees. So, the ones that I have kept are the ones that have some sort of emotional meaning to me.”
Despite being one of the most successful leading ladies in the Indian film industry in contemporary times, Vidya has been repeatedly body-shamed by producers and filmmakers. Recently, while she attended Indian Express’ six-part series, Expresso, the actress shared that she was asked by producers to lose some kilos before starting any new film. Calling this absolutely ridiculous, the actress added:
“Before every film, I would get asked by the producers and directors if I could shed some weight. And I have been going through some health challenges for a long long time. So, it was next to impossible. Finally, four to five years ago, when the director said this to me, I said, ‘Please, I am not going to be the body you need me to be. You need to go to the body you need.’ I find this absolutely ridiculous. Because the part was written with me in mind. So why this insistence? What is this obsession with only thin being desirable and acceptable?”
