The Indian-American billionaire, Vinod Khosla is the co-founder of Sun Microsystems, a renowned American technology company. Sun Microsystems contributed heavily to computing technologies, from selling computers, computer components, and information technology services to software and creating the Solaris operating system. Not only this, Vinod Khosla is also the founder of American venture capital firm, Khosla Ventures. In 2014, Vinod Khosla appeared in the Forbes List of 400 richest people in the United States. In 2021, he jumped to the 92nd spot on the Forbes List 400. Fast forward to 2024, he is the second richest Indian in the USA with a staggering net worth of 7.7 billion USD. The richest Indian in the USA is Jay Chaudhary, who has an estimated wealth of 11.3 billion USD. Apart from supporting a series of tech companies, Vinod Khosla founded The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) in 1992, a not-for-profit organisation encouraging entrepreneurship among youngsters.
Vinod Khosla was born in Pune, Maharashtra, on January 28, 1955, into a Punjabi family. His father was an officer in the Indian army and wanted his son to follow in his footsteps. However, Vinod was inclined towards technology and continued pursuing a series of engineering degrees. Vinod Khosla completed his schooling from Mount St. Mary's School. At the age of 16, he started dreaming of founding an IT company after witnessing the founding of Intel company. As a result, he studied hard and got admission to IIT Delhi, where he pursued a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

After graduation, Vinod Khosla left India and went to the US to pursue a master's degree in biomedical engineering. He took admission to Carnegie Mellon University. With a dream to open his own company, he went to Silicon Valley, where he decided to pursue an MBA from the prestigious Stanford University Graduate School of Business. After completing his post-graduation, Vinod Khosla founded Daisy Systems, a significant computer-aided design system for electrical engineers. In the following years, he started Sun Microsystems in 1982 with John Doerr of Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers (KPCB).
Once, in an old interview with the Economic Times, Vinod Khosla opened up about his first entrepreneurial venture and revealed that it was a failure as it never got off the ground. Opening up about the same, Vinod shared that he was so passionate about entrepreneurship that he wanted to build a company as soon as possible. In his thirst for entrepreneurship, Vinod Khosla created a soy milk company and heard about an institute in Nainital that developed the technology to make milk from soya beans. However, he gave up on the idea due to several issues and went to Silicon Valley to begin a start-up there.
The second richest Indian in the USA, Vinod Khosla is leading a happy married life with his wife, Neeru Khosla. According to multiple reports, Vinod and Neeru have been friends since childhood, and as they grew up, the duo developed feelings for each other.
After dating for some time, Vinod and Neeru got married and are now parents to four children, Nina Khosla, Vani Khosla, Anu Khosla, and Neal Khosla. Talking about Neeru Khosla's profession, she is the co-founder and chair of CK12 Foundation, which is a non-profit California-based organisation aiming to provide low-cost K-12 education in the US and abroad.
