It was an emotional moment for all the Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans after the team lost the game to Rajasthan Royals, eventually marking their exit from the Indian Premiere League 2024. It was also reportedly the last match played by cricketer Dinesh Karthik before he retired from the IPL. Though Dinesh didn’t make any official announcement about the same, the scene on the field said it all.
After the match was over, the crowd went berserk and started chanting Dinesh’s name, and every team member came forward to hug Dinesh. Former Indian captain and RCB player, Virat Kohli couldn’t hold back his tears as he embraced an emotional Dinesh. The ‘DK DK’ chants continued as the cricketer slowly walked towards the dressing room. The RCB players allowed him to lead the field.

Though Karthik didn’t speak about his retirement directly, IPL’s broadcaster confirmed the news with a social media post. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), IPL’s digital broadcaster, Jio Cinema paid tribute to Karthik with a ‘Just Retired’ post.
Dinesh Karthik has played various forms of cricket and is currently the captain of the Tamil Nadu cricket team. He began playing IPL for Delhi Daredevils, and his impressive performances awed everyone. In 2011, Dinesh joined Kings XI Punjab and became the second most expensive player. The ace cricketer has set many records in his domestic and international career.

Amid the match, a video of Anushka Sharma surfaced on social media as she was seen in the stands, cheering for her husband, Virat Kohli. But as soon as the game ended, a visibly upset Anushka was seen standing disappointed after RCB’s loss.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru's journey in IPL 2024 has been incredible. Virat Kohli's team couldn't win in the first seven matches out of eight in the first half of the season. However, the team made an incredible comeback, winning six matches in a row during the second half of the season. Speaking to Jio Cinema, Virat mentioned:
“I had almost packed my bags in April and thought what will happen now? and now look where we standing, it's amazing how this game can turn. That's the thing one should never assume something else going to happen."
