Veteran actress, Waheeda Rehman is one of the finest stars of the Hindi film industry. She made her acting debut with the Telugu film, Rojulu Marayi, in 1955. However, the actress rose to fame with filmmaker, Guru Dutt's romantic dramas, Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool. Since then, Waheeda Rehman became a household name, and her popularity knew no bounds.
Waheeda Rehman recently graced Arbaaz Khan's newly-launched chat show, The Invincibles, and the teaser of the upcoming episode was released on February 24, 2023. In the episode, the veteran actor shared some unknown facets of her professional life and also talked about her childhood aspiration of becoming an actor.

During the conversation with Arbaaz Khan, Waheeda Rehman talked about her initial days in the film industry and recalled how Guru Dutt was told that he was making a mistake by casting her in the film, Pyaasa. The actress revealed how someone told Guru that she was ‘bekaar’ and almost like a ‘wooden doll’. However, she added that when her photo was published in a newspaper while accepting an award, she started getting a lot of film offers. Waheeda added:
“Allah ne meri dil ki baat sun li. Destiny mujhe kheech rahi thi.”
Further in the conversation, Arbaaz Khan asked Waheeda Rehman if she performed movie scenes in front of a mirror. To which, the Guide actor responded that her father always got worried when he noticed her speaking to the mirror. However, one day when he finally confronted her, she gave him a beautiful response. Waheeda added:
“My father used to tell my mother to take care of me as he worried I will go mad. One day, he called me and asked why do I do that, and I said my heart wants the world to smile when I smile and cry when I cry.”

Waheeda Rehman also talked about how a distributor had suggested her name to Guru Dutt and how she was asked to change her name for films. Reflecting on the same, she said that she was ready to work day and night but would never agree to do things that she wasn’t comfortable with. In her words:
“Excuse me, it is my own name. My parents have given it to me, why should I change my name? I am ready to work hard, but a few things about which I don't feel comfortable, I will not do it because I won't be able to.”
On the personal front, Waheeda Rehman got married to Shashi Rekhi in April 1974. The couple is blessed with two children, Sohail Rekhi and Kashvi Rekhi.
