Relationships are not always meant to be. Sometimes they work out and go on to last a lifetime and sometimes they just die a sad death. Blame it on the circumstances or on the individuals themselves, if a relationship is not meant to be, one starts to feel suffocated within its bounds. Thus, it is advisable to part ways than staying together forcefully if things are not going well between a couple, despite their repeated tries to mend things. But, that too should be done the correct way.

First and foremost, be the first one to apologise to your partner. It is not like you are doing it on purpose, but still it will be devastating for him/her. And, even though your partner will not really feel that your apologies are genuine, make sure you mean them.

Do not break up over a text message, email, or send the news through a third person. That is the most disgusting way to end it and you should not stoop down that low.

Do not give your partner any mixed signals. Be clear about your decision. You cannot keep hurting your partner emotionally by not being clear yourself as to what you want.
Concentrate on the breakup. When your partner tries to find fault in your decision, do not start bringing up things from the past and explaining them as possible reasons. Keep your cool because you are the one who is walking out.

Do not regret a week after the breakup and make things complicated. Have you thought enough about your relationship? Is there nothing else left to try? Are you really miserable? Have you given it your best shot? Are you happy with your decision of calling it quits?
Please do not lie about the real reason behind you wanting to end the relationship. Your partner has a right to know. It is better than always wondering whether what you said was really the mistake he or she made. Be honest, you owe that to them!

Things will not get sorted out if you do not take their calls or avoid meeting them. It is better to meet and sort things out and clear the air than have a stalking boyfriend/girlfriend who wants you back.
Your partner will not be elated to hear about the breakup news. There will obviously be some drama, a lot of crying maybe, and some emotional blackmailing too. So, know beforehand all the strategies to handle these situations.
Do not get rude when your partner starts cross-questioning you. Be patient and kind. Keep your explanations to the point and do not expect your partner to get your point straight away.

You actually think that breaking the news out on the day her dog died, or the one on which he lost his job would be a great one to breakup? Be compassionate; this is someone you lived your life with for a considerable period of time.
It is your mess, and so you need to clean it up. If it is completely your choice to breakup, then why will you need anyone else’s help in it? And remember, most people have fun when others suffer, they do not really care.
Do not let the whole word know about your breakup. Why was dirty linen in public? It is a hard time for both of you and posting stuff about it on social media will only make you look foolish and hardly win you any sympathy if that is what you wanted.
