Dharmendra is well-known for his short temper and anger issues. Time and again, we have heard anecdotes about him losing his cool on his fellow actors, media or staff, which became the talk of the town. However, not many know that Dharmendra had once slapped his fellow actor, Sanjay Khan, in front of many people.

It so happened that when Sanjay Khan was a newcomer in the industry, he worked in a film, Haqeeqat, with Dharmendra in 1964. Dharmendra, who has always been fond of parties, hosted a bash to mingle with the film's cast. After work, Sanjay Khan attended Dharmendra's party, which was graced by many other stars associated with the film industry. Everything was going well, but things started deteriorating when Dharam ji made Sanjay drink too much alcohol.

Dharmendra could not tolerate Sanjay Khan badmouthing Om Prakash

Sanjay Khan's antics changed drastically under the influence of alcohol, and he started talking nonsense about the actors in the film industry. At first, Dharmendra tried to make him understand with love, but Sanjay kept talking rubbish. However, the matter got escalated when Sanjay started badmouthing veteran actor, Om Prakash. Dharmendra could not resist this and slapped Sanjay in front of the gathering.

Seeing this, all the people present at the party were quite surprised. However, everyone remained silent and kept thinking about what went wrong, so that Dharmendra decided to slap Sanjay Khan. Later, Dharmendra also felt sad about this, and he reached Sanjay’s elder brother, Feroz Khan's house, to apologise for his mistake. But Feroz, who was aware of the whole matter, told Dharmendra that Sanjay had to be punished for his actions. Feroz had said:

"He should be punished for his actions. You did it right If I were in your place, I would have done the same."

When Sanjay Khan was told that he could never work again

In his autobiography, The Best Mistakes of My Life, Sanjay Khan shed light on some of his closest friendships in his life. The actor's life turned upside down after a major fire broke out on the sets of his TV show, The Sword of Tipu Sultan, in 1989. Reportedly, fifty-two people had died in the fire. In an old interview, Khan remembered the day of the mishap and shared that the doctors told him he could never work again, but his will kept him going. In his words:

"The whole set was consumed by fire. Smoke and flames had engulfed me. I was hit on a head with something like a canon ball, which later I was told was a tin of paint I fell and was taken to hospital. I had 65 per cent third degree burns, 52 of my crew lost their lives. I've carried this pain for a long time. Only seven months after the accident, I was informed about it."

When Dharmendra visited Sanjay Khan in the hospital and cried like a boy

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sanjay Khan recalled how Dharmendra visited him in the hospital and was crying like a boy. Revealing that he had come out of a coma after two months, the actor added that he looked pathetic when his fellow actor, Dharmendra, came to express their sympathies with him. Shedding light on the kind of friendship he shared with Dharmendra, Sanjay had said:

"Two months after I came back from coma, I saw a stream of VIPs from Delhi and Dharmendra. Those people were watching me with pathetic looks, I was telling them I'll meet them soon, but they must've thought I was a goner and were expressing sympathies with me. But Dharmendra was crying like a boy. He kept on saying, 'My friend, I'm with you.' That was the friendship I shared with him. I shared an extremely long and close friendship with Raj Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar, among others."
