Dharmendra and Hema Malini's relationship has seen a lot of ups and downs, but despite it, their love for each other never faded. For the unversed, Dharmendra and Hema Malini's love blossomed while they were working together in the year 1970 for the film, Tum Haseen Main Jawan. While Dharmendra was married to his first wife, Prakash Kaur, he was not able to subside his feelings for Hema Malini. It was on May 2, 1980, the couple got married in an intimate ceremony.
Hema and Dharmendra's relationships survived the rollercoasters of life because they always tried harder to understand each other. A while ago, Hema Malini made an appearance at Kapil Sharma's comedy show with her daughter, Esha Deol. During one of the segments of the show, Hema Malini revealed the importance of cooking. She shared that in the year initial years of her marriage, she never cooked for Dharmendra.

However, she learnt the importance of cooking when her daughter Esha started going to school, and her classmates would ask what her mother cooked. After this incident, Hema Malini started cooking during their family holidays abroad. She would call her mother in India and would cook rasam in London.

While Hema Malini learnt cooking, she was never able to develop a taste for Punjabi food, despite being married to a proper Punjabi man. Further, in the show, Kapil asked her if she never tried making 'paranthe' for Dharmendra. The actress replied that whenever he would come to their place, he would eat South Indian. She was quoted as saying:

Dharmendra and Hema Malini always tried keeping their life private and away from the media glare. However, in Hema Malini's biography, Hema Malini: The Dream Girl, the legendary actress revealed her relationship with Dharmendra's first wife, Prakash Kaur. Hema Malini revealed that she never met Prakash Kaur after her wedding. In an excerpt, she had written:
"I didn’t want to disturb anyone. I am happy with whatever Dharamji did for me and my daughters. He played the role of a father, like any father would do. I guess I am happy with that.”
