Meet IC 814 Actress Additi Gupta, Hailed For Negative Role In 'Qubool Hai', Quit A Show In 5 Months

Anubhav Sinha’s latest series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, has been gaining the spotlight after its release on August 29, 2024. The series features the gripping moments of the infamous hijack of Indian Airlines flight IC 814. With mixed reviews and throwback interviews of the passengers who went through the actual ordeal, the series is open to many debates.

Apart from the visuals and the storyline, the stellar cast caught people’s attention. From veterans like Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapur to comedian Rajiv Thakur as one of the terrorists and Vijay Verma as Captain Sharan Dev, head pilot of IC 814, the cast is spectacular. Amid the diligent cast, it is actress, Additi Gupta who left a striking mark on the audience’s brain.

Additi Gupta, who played the character of one of the air hostesses, ‘Chaaya Singh,’ was simply outstanding. Additi Gupta began her career with Ekta Kapoor’s popular show

Born in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Additi Gupta pursued fashion design at Delhi University. She forayed into the television industry in 2008 with Ekta Kapoor’s popular serial, Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil, opposite Harshad Chopda. For her debut show, she also earned an Indian Telly Award nomination for Best Actress in a Lead Role.

After her debut show, Additi appeared in several notable shows, such as Sanjog Se Bani Sangini, Punar Vivah, Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil, Ishqbaaaz, and a few others. She also made special appearances in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kumkum, Kayamath, Pavitra Rishta, and Sanskaar Laxmi.

Additi Gupta’s negative role in ‘Qubool Hai’

It was in 2014 when Additi Gupta was cast in a negative role for the show Qubool Hai. Many actresses think twice before signing a negative role, and especially if they started their career playing the lead. But for Additi, it was quite the opposite, as she wanted to experiment with her roles. In an interview with Pinkvilla, when the actress was asked whether it was a deliberate attempt, she said:

“When I was offered the role of a witch in Qubool Hai, I knew it was an absurd character but then it was fun too to be able to play a character I cannot relate to at all.”

Additi Gupta walked out of a show within five months

After Qubool Hai, Additi was cast in the show, Pardes Mein Hai Meraa Dil. But within five months, she walked out of the show, citing creative differences. In an interview with India Today, she spoke about the reason behind quitting the show and said:

“Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil was definitely one show that I regret being part of because when commitments are made to you and are not fulfilled, it hurts. But again, it was a learning experience.”

Additi Gupta’s rumoured linkups and marriage

Additi was rumoured to be dating an investment banker, Rizwan Bachav, but the duo broke up after dating each other for two years. After her break up with Rizwan, Additi found love in her Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil co-star, Laksh Lalwani. However, none of them commented on the same. In 2018, Additi tied the knot with her Goa-based businessman beau, Kabir Chopra, in a private ceremony. The duo has been in a long-distance marriage because of Additi’s shooting.
