Woman Journalist Refused To Pay Uber Driver, Snatched His Phone, Netizens Say 'I Hope Karma...'

A clip of a heated exchange between a woman journalist and a cab driver in Noida has surfaced online. The video has left the internet divided on whether what the woman did was right or not. Both parties have now shared their side of the story, and while the driver faced a loss of Rs. 130, the woman has called the driver a part of a 'criminal syndicate'. 

A woman refused to pay the Uber driver and snatched his phone

The video shared on the discussion platform, Reddit showed the Uber driver's side of the story. In the video, he can be seen asking the woman if she will not pay the bill if she is a journalist. The passenger further stated that the driver was being rude to her. She was later seen threatening the driver and refusing to pay the taxi fare. At the end of the video, the lady is seen snatching the phone from the driver's hand. 

Later, the journalist shared a thread of the incident on her Twitter handle. The journalist, Shivangi Shukla, claimed that the driver was rude to him and didn't drop him off at the set location. However, she was in a hurry and paid him 95 cents less than what the app showed, at which point the driver got aggressive and started to scream at her, only to calm down after she started recording him. She even claimed that she was afraid that he was trying to kidnap her. She stated:

"I was travelling back from a desolate and outskirts area of Noida.I asked the Uber driver to drop me at the exact location as mentioned in the app. He rudely refused. So proceeded to pay the bill which was 129.95. I was in a hurry, so i typed 129 on UPI but he said he wants 95 paisa. He got very aggressive about the 95 paisa. The video below shows how he is becomes hostile despite not following the map directions. He started screaming and only when I started recording he calmed down. I asked why are you aggressive over 95 paisa? Suddenly, he started driving, I thought he is trying to kidnap me!"

She further called the video posted by the Uber driver misleading and stated that he was shouting at her. She added that there was a suspicious change in his behaviour after he talked to someone on the phone. Shivangi stated that she tried to pay him, but he refused and walked away. She stated that she felt her safety was in question and this was all a plan of a criminal syndicate.

A user penned, "Only thing here is Shivangi, the driver didn’t drop you inside the building or the area, and you created a scene and refused to pay 129 to the driver. Most of your videos are cut or split in parts. It wasn’t for 90 paise, it was for the whole. CUT THE CRAP !! Own it! U didn’t pay." Another wrote, "Notice how she was fine with recording him but snatched the camera as soon as she realized she is also being recorded by him also, she doesnt have any valid argument she is just saying don't talk rudely as an argument she is a journalist on camera but a bitch in real life."

A comment read, "If she gets away without paying him, I hope karma hits her so hard that she begs for mercy. I learned the hard way that if you try to scam or take advantage of a man who works hard for his family, you are only inviting something truly terrible into your life." Another penned, "If you felt safe, then why not use SOS from the Uber app @Uber_India? Even he was telling you to take him to PS. Toh PS Lekar kyu nehi gaya reh? PS bolkar threat dana sa PS lekar hi jata.Sali women victim card khel raha hain yeha?"
