Though she is best known for her hit jodi with Dilip Kumar, it was Raj Kapoor who gave Nimmi her first role in Barsaat. She was the second lead in the film, but Raj Kapoor gave her an important role. The movie's classic songs like barsaat mein humse mile tum, jeeya beqarar hai and patli qamar hai were all picturised on Nimmi. The success of this film made Nimmi a star. Later she worked with Raj Kapoor in Banwara also.
